Correspondence MBA vs Distance MBA vs Online MBA
Correspondence MBA is mostly a legacy search term. Current university documents are more likely to use open and distance learning (ODL) or online mode. The distinction matters because teaching, assessment and regulator records are mode-specific.
Correspondence and open learning
Traditional correspondence study relied on printed material, postal assignments and periodic examinations. Modern ODL can add digital resources, counselling sessions, regional centres and online support while remaining a distinct mode from a fully online programme.
Do not infer the examination method from the word distance. Ask where assessments occur, how identity is verified and whether any practical or project component requires travel.
Online delivery
An online MBA usually operates through a learning platform with live or recorded lectures, digital readings, discussion tools and technology-led assessment. Quality varies widely: a sophisticated LMS does not guarantee faculty access, useful feedback or a strong cohort.

Recognition is mode- and session-specific
For Indian degrees, verify the exact university, programme, mode and admission session against the relevant regulator record. Save that evidence with the prospectus and offer letter.
An institution can have authority for one programme or mode without every course on its website carrying the same status. Never rely only on a generic logo or the phrase recognised university.
Decision checklist
- Record the exact programme code and delivery mode.
- Verify the admission session, not only the university name.
- Ask where and how examinations are conducted.
- Measure scheduled faculty interaction in a normal month.
- Retain entitlement evidence, prospectus and fee receipt.
