What does Executive MBA mean in India?

It is an umbrella term, not one standard credential. It can describe a full-time one-year MBA for experienced professionals, a weekend MBA degree, a modular executive-management programme, or an institutional certificate. Compare the award, format and admissions rules before comparing brand or fee.

Can I keep working during every Executive MBA?

No. IIMA PGPX, IIMB EPGP, IIMC MBAEx and other residential programmes require a full-time career break. Weekend, evening, modular, online and open-learning formats are the work-alongside options.

What is the difference between an Executive MBA and a regular MBA?

Executive formats usually expect professional experience and use a cohort, schedule and curriculum designed around experienced managers. A regular MBA may accept candidates with little or no experience. The exact degree title varies by institution, so read the award wording rather than relying on the marketing label.

Is an online Executive MBA valid?

Validity depends on the awarding institution, the exact programme, the delivery mode and the admission session. For an Indian online or distance degree, verify the university and programme for the relevant session on UGC-DEB and retain the entitlement evidence. Institutional certificates should be evaluated as professional education, not automatically treated as university degrees.

What work experience is required?

It ranges from none for some standard online MBAs to ten or more years for senior-executive programmes. Many one-year residential MBAs ask for four or five years, while weekend programmes commonly start between one and five years. Check whether experience must be post-degree, full-time or managerial.

Do I need CAT, GMAT or GRE?

Some one-year residential programmes use GMAT or GRE, XLRI may specify XAT or another accepted test, and weekend programmes may run their own aptitude test and interview. Many online and institutional routes are profile-led. Use the active intake notice because requirements change.

How much does an Executive MBA cost?

There is no reliable single range because the label covers institutional courses, online university degrees, weekend MBAs and premium residential programmes. Build a total-cost figure from tuition, taxes, exams, campus travel, accommodation and foregone salary, then verify it against a dated official fee schedule.

Will an EMBA increase my salary?

No programme can promise a salary increase. Outcomes depend on your prior role, employer, programme format, network, job market and how you convert the learning into larger responsibilities. Ask for audited placement or cohort-outcome data that matches the exact programme, not another course at the same institution.

Does an Executive MBA include placements?

Full-time residential programmes may offer a structured placement process, while weekend, modular and online programmes often assume participants remain employed and may not offer conventional campus placements. Read the programme-specific policy before applying.

Can my employer sponsor the programme?

Yes, if company policy permits. Start with your reporting manager and HR or learning team, and present the programme schedule, business benefit, retention terms and expected time away from work. Sponsorship can mean full funding, partial reimbursement or only approved leave.

Which specialisation should I choose?

Choose one that compounds your current experience or supports a specific next role. Compare the actual electives, faculty and capstone access; do not choose on the specialisation label alone because two programmes can use the same label for very different curricula.

Is an EMBA worth it after 30 or 35?

Age alone is not the decision variable. The better test is whether the programme closes a defined skill, credential or network gap, fits your work constraints and has a credible payback path. Senior-executive programmes can be designed for candidates well beyond their mid-thirties.
