Executive MBA vs MBA

The useful comparison is not the word “Executive” on the brochure. It is whether the programme expects experience, lets you keep working, awards the credential you need and supports the career move you are actually planning.

Three tests that settle the choice

Career-break test: if you want a major industry or function reset and can step away from employment, compare full-time MBAs—including one-year programmes for experienced candidates.

Workplace-leverage test: if your next promotion depends on applying new skills in your current organisation, a strong weekend or modular cohort can be more useful than leaving the role.

Credential test: if a future job, licence or degree programme requires a university MBA, reject any option whose award wording does not satisfy that rule.
